Home About Me My Experience What is Psychotherapy

So what is Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy?

  • It is a talking therapy therapy which grew out of the thinking and practice of psychoanalysis.
  • Offers a safe, reliable and confidential setting in which to explore and think about those issues that may be troubling you.
  • Looks at the links between past experiences (which sometimes get remembered in therapy) and present difficulties.
  • Pays close attention to the interaction with the therapist – the transference – through which the client may relive situations from early life or repeat patterns of relating which are currently causing problems.
  • Works with dreams as a means of access to memories, emotions or aspects of yourself of which you may be unaware.
  • Offers the potential for insight into the underlying root of the difficulties and the possibility of resolution and change.

What's the next step?

An initial consultation in psychoanalytic psychotherapy is an opportunity for you and the therapist to meet in order to explore and together think about your difficulties.

Hopefully this will enable us to decide how your interests may be best served.
